Please be advised that retired Deputy Fire Chief Alexander Beattie passed away on Wednesday, 3/4/15 at the age of 95.

Members will be needed in Class A Uniforms stand by as Honor Guard.

Alexander Beattie

Alexander M. “Alex,” 95, Ret. Deputy Chief Clifton F.D., died Wednesday, March 4, 2015.  Born in Clifton, he was a lifelong Clifton resident. A 1936 graduate of Clifton H.S., Alex is a US Army Veteran of WWII who served with the 767th Tank Battalion in the Pacific.  He was a member of the Clifton Fire Department for 42 years retiring as Deputy Chief in 1989.  Alex is a member of FMBA – Local 21, a Past Commander of Albion Post #7165 VFW, a 55 year member of Clifton Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Presbyterian Church all in Clifton. He is predeceased by his wife, the former Hope Latham and by his sister, Helen C. Beattie.  Alex is survived by a stepson, Andrew “Bud” Scully of Martinez, CA, by two stepdaughters, Helen Ann Burlingame of Belfast, ME and Susan Scully Cluff of West Chester, PA, by two sisters-in-law, Joyce Latham Gates of Pompton Plains and Geraldine Latham Baker of NC, by four step grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren also by cousins, Druanne Cleary and husband, Joe of Lake Hopatcong and Brad Treacy and wife, Peggy of Long Valley.  Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday at Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012 followed by burial at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a VFW Service at 7:30 PM and a Masonic Service at 8 PM.
