Clifton Board of Education Employee in Need…

Danny Listmeier is the head custodian at the Clifton High School Annex on Brighton Road. This past week Danny was involved in an awful car accident and family members have set up a GoFundMe page to assist with medical bills and expenses. Below is an excerpt from the Go-Fund-Me page that Danny’s family has created. They update the page daily with information on his recovery progress.

“My cousin, Danny Listmeier, son of Lani (Teacher School 2) and Jerry Pollastro (BOE Maintenance Division), nephew of Cathy (Teacher CHS) and John Burke (Retired Clifton Police LT), (including many other family members and friends to SO many), was in an awful car accident. He sustained many injuries and is currently in the ICU. Tomorrow will be a week since his accident and he is still fighting for his life. He has bleeding on the brain, and many other injuries. Along with prayers and positive thoughts, we are seeking donations for future medical bills and/or expenses that he will endure. He is going to have a long road to recovery but he is a strong person and we are confident he will fight to get well. That being said, we don’t want him to worry about finances for the time being. I can’t explain how much we appreciate all the calls and messages we have received thus far. Danny is DEFINITELY loved. We will try to keep people updated on his progress as much as possible. We thank you for your donation in advance. Every little bit will help.”

Mental Health Association of Passaic County Donation Presentation

Clifton FMBA Local 21 was proud to present a $400 check to Joanne Green, Executive Director, Mental Health Association of Passaic County at their regular meeting on Wednesday, May 23. The funds were raised by members through their purchase of commemorative “Stigma Free” t-shirts marking the firefighters support for efforts to recognize and respond appropriately to those suffering from mental illness in emergency situations.

Last year every member of the Clifton Fire Department underwent Mental Health First Aid training to help them better assess and deescalate behavioral health crises. “As firefighters we are trained to deal with a variety of situations, and when moments count we must be able to make decisions quickly, and correctly” stated Deputy Chief Michael Allora who spearheaded this effort. “We are often dealing with people at their worst possible moments. With increased sensitivity to their mental health we can provide even better service, and that’s always our priority.” The Clifton Fire Department is the first fire department in the State of New Jersey to undergo this training.

“Through their generosity our members, the same firefighters that work every day to keep Clifton safe, showed that their commitment to the community they serve goes well beyond fighting fires,” stated John Beard, President, Clifton FMBA. “Protecting Clifton is what we do, we’re proud of it, and we will continue to take it upon ourselves to do what we have to in order to respond to every emergency to the very best of our ability.”
