nj fmba

The New Jersey FMBA will participate in an important press conference this Thursday, May 5, with Congressman Bill Pascrell and Senator Robert Menendez to support the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act.

More information about this bill follows.
The event will be held at Clifton Firehouse 5, 51 Brighton Ave, Clifton beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Please join us as to show your Local’s support for this important legislation! As always wear your helmets and station gear or FMBA logos.

For more information please call Kyle Hughes, Northern District VP or the State Office at 732 499 9250.

H.R. 4625, Firefighter Cancer Registry Act of 2016 would establish a specialized national cancer registry to improve collection infrastructure and research activities related to monitoring and studying cancer incidence among firefighters. The registry would improve collection capabilities and activities related to the nationwide monitoring of cancer incidence among all firefighters – career and volunteer. Specifically, the registry would:

•  Store and consolidate epidemiological information submitted by healthcare professionals related to cancer incidence among firefighters.
• Make de-identified data available to public health researchers to provide them with robust and comprehensive datasets to expand groundbreaking research.
• Improve our understanding of cancer incidence and could potentially lead to the development of more sophisticated safety protocols and safeguards as more data is collected.
• Ensure effectiveness by requiring its administrators to consult regularly with epidemiologists, public health experts, clinicians, and firefighters.

In solidarity,

Eddie Donnelly, President NJ FMBA

FMBA 21 Food Drive- Month of May

This year’s Food Drive, organized by Clifton Fire – FMBA Local 21 Firefighters Union, will run the month of May.

Clifton Firefighters (FMBA Local 21) are helping out the community this spring season with our annual Food Drive. During the month of May residents can drop off canned and non-perishable food items at any of the six local city firehouses.  The donated items will be packaged up and delivered to St. Peter’s Haven on Clifton Avenue.  If any resident cannot get to a local firehouse, contact us at Info@fmba21.org to make arrangements for pickup.

We would like to recognize “Sign-A-Rama” for providing the display signs gratis.

We have had great success over the past years with our Food Drive, Coat Drive and Toys-4-Tots Drive – Thank you to all those that have helped and we look forward to your continued support!  As spring approaches, if you have a winter coat that your child will have outgrown by fall, please keep it aside for our Coat Drive in October.

Regards,

Steven Turi
